More Than 4.5 Million Toothpaste Products Recalled in 2 States

Taking good care of your teeth isn’t just about having a striking smile. Research increasingly shows that oral health is closely tied to better cancer prevention and possible reduced heart attack and stroke risk.
Meanwhile, dental hygiene products are another consumer product category coming into the spotlight, as trade news outlet SupplyChainDive.com reported earlier this month on Colgate-Palmolive’s warning of increased tariffs-related costs. Before you stock up on your most trusted products, a new recall suggests some customers may not be squeezing the benefits they’re expecting from that tube.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration updated the public on an existing recall for a total of 4,617,316 toothpaste products reportedly distributed in Delaware and North Carolina for “CGMP Deviations.” A total of 11 toothpaste products are involved.
“CGMP Deviations,” or Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulations, doesn’t clarify which type of deviation occurred. On their website, the FDA says properly adhering to these regulations “helps to prevent instances of contamination, mix-ups, deviations, failures, and errors. This assures that drug products meet their quality standards.”
Evidently first issued on April 24 but not reported out until this morning, the recall event just received a Class II designation—meaning the products “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.” It is not clear from the available information whether any reported health events have occurred.

The recalling firm is listed as Kenil Healthcare Private Limited of India.
The products were distributed by Bob Barker Co. Inc. of Fuquay-Varina, NC—their website indicates the company “offers the broadest product line and largest inventory of corrections and detention supplies to federal, state and local government agencies and select businesses,” meaning they likely distribute directly to prisons or other correctional facilities. It is not further clarified which “select businesses” they may work with.
In addition to the toothpaste, the FDA’s enforcement report also noted several types of medical creams and other topical treatments had been recalled by the same manufacturer.
