They're from a well-known brand and are sold by major grocers like Walmart and Amazon. And it’s not just bread that’s been recalled.

More Than a Dozen Types of Popular Bakery Products Have Just Been Recalled

Close to 32 million Americans—adults and children—have at least one type of food allergy, health experts estimate. Given those numbers, it’s not surprising that many companies have taken greater steps in recent years to provide food options free of certain allergens, such as milk or soy.
For people wanting to skip gluten (including the three million Americans with celiac disease), it’s easier than ever to find tasty bread and baked good options. But one popular gluten-free bakery appears to facing an issue with other food allergens, so you might want to take a second look at your loaf of bread this weekend. And while you’re at it, maybe your croutons, bagels, and cookies, too…
On Friday afternoon, a new report by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of 16 different New Grains Gluten Free Bakery products. The food items could apparently contain three different undeclared food allergens, depending on the product: eggs, soy, and milk.
The FDA states, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs, soy, or milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products.”
New Grains Gluten Free Bakery, which is based in Spanish Fork, Utah, initiated the recall on May 8, after learning that the allergens could be present in its products.
The recalled bread items were reportedly distributed to retail stores throughout Utah between April 7 and April 21. Packaging features the text “gluten-free” and the brand name “New Grains.” Product labels could be red, purple, orange, blue, green, or pink, per the provided information.
The FDA report does not state the number of products involved in the recall or any specific locations where the items were sold. A brief online search shows products from the brand appear to be sold by Walmart and Amazon, among other food retailers.
On its website, New Grains states that it delivers “high quality, healthy, and delicious gluten-free products” to restaurants and grocers nationwide. The “retail locations” section of their site shows restaurants and store locations in 18 states.
Recalled products include bread loaves, bagels, cookies, and more. The specific products—and the allergens in each, as provided by the FDA—are:
- Artisan White Bread (Contains: Egg)
- Artisan Multigrain Bread (Contains: Egg)
- Artisan Sourdough Bread (Contains: Egg)
